GUIDE SHARE EUROPE (GSE) is Europe's new association for computer people.
GSE is a financially independent non profit association run by companies, organizations and individuals who work with information and communication technology solutions, based on IBM architectures.
The aim of GSE is to:
- Encourage members to exchange experience and information.
- Influence the vendors, both IBM and others, so that the members get what they want.
- Influence the European Standards organizations in the interest of the members.
Within the body of GSE, active marketing by any vendor or member is absolutely prohibited. This prohibition also includes the hiring of new employees. This "golden rule" means that member companies need not fear that other companies will steal/recruit their specialists during conferences.
GSE functions on two different levels:
European and Regional.
At the European level, there is at least one conference annually included with the European Working Groups and Projects work. Each conference covers a wide range of subjects.
At the Region level the Working Groups and Projects focus on detailed issues, in order to find good solutions for the benefit of the membership. Very often, this work is done in close contact with IBM representatives.

What is the Nordic Region
Our region is called Nordic Region, which covers the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden and the Baltic Countries).
In the Member register there are around 100 companies and organizations with more than 50.000 IT professionals employed.
The Working Groups
The Nordic Region has a number of Working Groups (WG), each with its own Steering Committee and chairman, who is elected for a 2-year period by the WG's members, usually at the annual Conference. The Steering Committee then gets formed by the Chairman.
The WG consists of representatives from the Nordic countries.
The Steering Committee is responsible for the conference program, with the majority of content being participant suggestions raised at previous conferences, along with IBM and other vendor announcements related to IBM SW
It is the mission of GSE to build conferences, which keep the member organizations knowledge and educational level about IBM software and opportunities at the highest possible level.
For the mature platform z/OS there is a very limited set of educational offers and here GSE Nordic has build the GSE Nordic Technical Conference, where all the aspects of using z/OS (MVS) are covered like CICS, DB2, MQ, IMS, Development, Architecture, Languages like Cobol, PLI and best practices for all the above
It is also the mission of GSE to help the members network with other installations and thereby have the opportunity to get a second opinion on upcoming or existing solutions.
Each Working Groups has a conference every year, or is part of the GSE Nordic Technical Conference, also held once a year in late spring.
The GSE Nordic Region Technical Conferences have several parallel tracks of sessions from which participants can select, and achieve a greater knowledge and experience of products.
Give and take
"Give and Take" is the main slogan of GSE which means that the more the participants contribute with presentations and are active in discussions, the more they will gain from the GSE conferences.
Members in GSE can participate in activities at the Regional or European level, or both!
