Abstract

Machine learning - powerful methods to make sense of our digital world Machine Learning seems to be everywhere. This talk gives an introduction to how machine learning allows us to analyze our digital world to predict events, identify trends, or extract complex relationships. I will present recent examples of our research in Machine Learning for applications such as document analysis. With the increasing application of machine learning in social decision-making, there is also a concern regarding the transparency and fairness of machine learning models. I will discuss some of our recent work on discrimination-aware machine learning that provides transparent balancing of these concerns.

Ira Assent is a professor and head of the Data-Intensive Systems research group in the Department of Computer Science at Aarhus University. She also heads the Big Data Analysis research at the DIGIT Aarhus University Centre for Digitalisation, Big Data and Data Analytics. Prior to joining Aarhus University, she was with Aalborg University and her alma mater, RWTH Aachen University, Germany. Iras research interests are methods, algorithms and technology in machine learning, data mining and data management, with a special focus on efficiency and scalability to Big Data.

Abstract

Every company is a now software company, relying on IT to deliver digital experiences that delight customers. Successful companies are using Agile and DevOps practices to enable faster delivery, higher quality and lower risk—and ultimately to meet rising customer expectations. But many mainframe organizations mistakenly believe that transformative change is onerously difficult and only implement these practices within small groups, or worse, continue with the status quo.

In this keynote session, Compuware CEO Chris O’Malley will share insights, case studies and actionable steps to help enterprise IT embrace a DevOps journey, rather than fear it. The end result? A mainstreamed mainframe that thrives in a dynamic culture driven by Agile methods, a preferred, integrated DevOps toolchain and an unyielding effort towards continuous improvement

With 30 plus years of IT experience, Chris has led the company’s transformation into becoming “The Mainframe Software Partner for the Next 50 Years.” Before joining Compuware in 2014, Chris was CEO of VelociData.
