The IBM z/OS platform continues to lead in mainframe resiliency. The hardware and storage infrastructures, as well as the database systems, continue to improve and deliver unparalleled levels of resiliency. However, most organizations still have heavy batch processing throughout the night, functioning as a principal way of updating those databases. Non-database managed data (data sets outside of the control of the database management tools for recovery) are an overlooked, but still critical component. Although mature, the hardware solutions for recovery focus at the volume level, with no knowledge of the state of the data sets at the time of the backup, leaving many of these data sets in a questionable state for recovery. This session will discuss these limitations and how IBM Z Batch Resiliency provides the solution.
